Twenty years later…

From Jensen’s Kettle Corn in La Crosse, WI in 1991 to The Kettle Korn House in Red Wing, MN today. What a Long Strange Trip it’s been! We’ve come a’fer piece from doing county fairs all across Wisconsin through the ‘90’s and most of the first decade of the 2000’s to now doing a handful of events that are a mix of public festivals and private occasions. The Kettle itself has changed from the hand crafted original cast iron and copper model to the nimble and manufactured ones I’ve been using these past five or so years. The one constant has been the recipe: Yellow Butterfly popcorn, oil, and 14 parts sugar/1 part salt mixed together to make the magic happen.

After a year of COVID19 pandemic keeping the summer fun under wraps in 2020, the Kettle is looking forward to coming out of storage and seeing the light of day. We did only one event in 2020 and that was a private “by invitation only” gathering. This year will be lean as well. But it will be a real joy to celebrate the new Scandihoo boutique store opening with Kristen and Tracy on June 24. Their Scandinavian themed shop in the quaint village of Stockholm, WI is a delight to behold. Being part Finnish I am partial to Scandinavian design and there’s plenty of it at Scandihoo.

I’ll be adding bits and pieces to this here Blog Gone blog as the spirit moves me to. Family and friends who have shared the experience of being part of The Kettle Korn House have come and a few important ones are now gone. I’ll highlight them in future posts. It’s been a sweet treat of a ride. And there’s still more to come…
